The Columbus Ice Hockey Club Summer Development program is administered by the CIHC in partnership with the City of Columbus Recreation and Parks department.  This program is administered from mid-March - early August each summer.  Most activities occur in the summer except the checking clinic which usually occurs two-three weeks after the hockey season ends to help prep hockey players entering into checking the upcoming season.  The summer skating enrichment program is a summer long skating program where kids can continue to refine their skating skills and participate in loosely organized games of pond hockey. The program is comprised of the following two components:

  • CIHC Checking Clinic - Players need the learn the fundementals of checking and the philosphy around this skill.  The camp will teach all aspects of checking in a safe environment to prepare players for the bantam and above level of play.  This class is primarily focused towards players new to checking.  This class will be offered at the conclusion of hockey season and before travel tryouts.  At the end of our season we will open registration for the checking clinic.

  • Summer Skating Enrichment– The summer skating enrichment program is targeted towards the beginning to intermediate skater who wishes to continue to learn how to skate whether for simple exercise and enjoyment or to progress enough to join a local hockey program.  As part of the summer skating enrichment program we run summer enrichment classes specifically for the 28 recreation centers based in central Ohio.  Summer enrichment classes usually start early-mid June through early August and are held 2-3 times per week.

  • Pond hockey– This program is geared toward those CIHC members who have participated in our hockey program.  Pond hockey is a supervised event where players are separated by skill level and participated in loosely organized games of fun. Pond hockey focuses on creativity and aspects of team play not normally exercised in a structured team environment. Pond hockey usually occurs twice per month starting in early June.  Dates are usually posted by mid-May.
